A Milestone in Faith: Nailuva Becomes an Organized Church
On June 25, 2025, the Nailuva Adventist Church achieved a significant milestone by becoming the Fiji Mission's 199th organized church. This historic moment brought together community members, leaders, and church elders in Nailuva Village, located in the heart of Ra Province. Fiji Mission President Nasoni Lutunaliwa, among other church leaders, officiated the event, marking a pivotal step for the congregation's 64 members, who have long battled through challenges to maintain their faith and community spirit.
A Journey of Faith
The story of the Nailuva community traces back to 1965 when Adventism first made its entry into this small Fijian village. It has been a long journey of perseverance, where the congregation experienced growing pains— including relocations between Nailuva and nearby Nasamia because of various challenges. Pastor Lutunaliwa characterized the church as a “lighthouse in Ra Province,” emphasizing that its mission is to remain dedicated to lifting up Jesus and drawing others to Him.
The Impact of Community Commitment
In remarks shared during the dedication ceremony, church elder Sitiveni Natabui expressed gratitude for the unwavering support from elders in the mother church, Namara Seventh-day Adventist Church. Without the guidance and mentorship provided by these elders over the decades, the Nailuva group may not have reached this important point of organization. Natabui's acknowledgment serves as a reminder of the collective effort involved in nurturing faith and community ties.
A Rich Historical Context
Christianity has deep roots in Fiji, introduced first by Methodists and Catholics in the early 19th century. However, it was the arrival of the Adventist mission in 1891 that significantly influenced the spread of the faith, culminating in Ratu Aporosa Rabuatoka of Suvavou's conversion. His journey inspired many, leading to a flourishing of Adventism throughout Fiji, including Nakuluva, where chiefs like Veni Sukanaivalu embraced the faith.
