Celebrating Purpose: World Pathfinder Day's Impact
The Fifteen Mile Seventh-day Adventist Church in Papua New Guinea recently joined the worldwide Adventist community to celebrate World Pathfinder Day (WPD) on September 21, 2025, under the resonant theme "Pathfinders on Purpose." This yearly observance not only highlights the significance of youth in church activities but also underscores their capacity to inspire change within their communities.
Meaningful Community Engagement and Service
More than 45 dedicated Pathfinders and young people participated in community service activities, showcasing their commitment to living out the values of their faith. Their first initiative began at the 15 Mile Police Station, where they engaged in cleanup efforts not only for sanitation but also as a means of fostering goodwill within the community. This action set the stage for a deeply impactful visit to 10 young prisoners.
During these visits, the Pathfinders brought essential food supplies, alongside words of encouragement through song and prayer. They shared Scripture with the inmates, emphasizing God's unyielding love and forgiveness, even in light of past mistakes. This profound message was encapsulated in their promise to welcome these young prisoners into the fellowship of their church upon their release, reinforcing a spirit of community support and accountability.
Drawn from the Scriptures: The Story of David
The church program also fleshed out the biblical story of David, illustrating the message that purpose can be defined irrespective of one's past or age. Minister Sinias Ray shared with the gathered youth, “Just like David, who was selected by God despite being a humble shepherd boy, each one of you has a divine purpose. Remember, your test scores or the opinions of others do not constrain what God has in store for your life.” This comparison aimed to inspire confidence and boldness in the Pathfinders, showing them that they were not just youngsters in a church program, but potential leaders capable of driving change.
Faith in Action: A Call to Purposeful Living
Pathfinder activities often reflect not just service but also a cultivation of leadership qualities among youth. The church leaders recognized the impact of these activities, applauding the Pathfinders for exemplifying the spirit of their ministry through service, leadership, and living with intention. This event serves as a reminder within the Adventist community that youth can, and should, play a consequential role in both their faith and local communities.
As we look toward the future, the acts of service performed on World Pathfinder Day remind us of the enduring themes of faith, community, and leadership. The youth of today are capable of fostering connections that could lead to transformative changes. Their willingness to face challenges, such as reaching out to young prisoners who may feel forgotten or marginalized by society, illuminates the broader context of how faith intersects with social justice, community service, and personal growth.
Looking Ahead: The Role of Young Faith Leaders
The celebrations and activities of World Pathfinder Day should not be viewed as isolated events but rather as stepping stones towards a future where young leaders in the Adventist faith community take charge to inspire others. By recognizing their potential for impact, we can encourage our youth to pursue initiatives that may seem daunting, reminding them that even the smallest efforts can lead to significant, meaningful change.
Final Thoughts: Embrace the Path of Service
As members of the SDA faith community, we are called to nurture and support our youth in these endeavors. By embracing their vision and actions, we not only encourage their enthusiastic participation but also create an environment where they can thrive, create positive change, and lead by example. The examples set during World Pathfinder Day show us all the immense possibilities that emerge when our congregations prioritize youth engagement and encourage service.
Don't forget to reach out and understand how you can help foster that same spirit of purpose in your own community. Join the conversations, encourage service projects, and help guide our youths as they forge their own paths in faith.
